Use Expanded Shale to improve your garden |
Expanded Shale can be used to:
- Improve soil drainage and stabilize roots
- Farm organically or hydroponically
- Create patio and rooftop gardens
- Control erosion and manage water runoff
- Create lighter concrete for building floors and decks
- Patch potholes
- Build roads and bridges
- Backfill retaining walls
- Convert unstable soft soil into usable land
How it is made:
Expanded Shale is made by expanding and vitrifying select shales, clays and slates in a rotary-kiln. The process produces a high-quality ceramic aggregate that is structurally strong, physically stable, durable, environmentally inert, light in weight and highly insulative. It is a non-toxic, absorptive aggregate that is dimensionally stable and will not degrade over time.
Expanded Shale is available in 28lb bags from Swan Lake Nurseryland on Highway 97 in Vernon BC. 2000lb super sacks are also available. Please contact us for details.
We also produce the Erosion Control Sock (see photo on your right) which is one of the best methods on the market for water management and erosion control. Erosion Control Socks let water flow freely through the sock while trapping silt, sand and other contaminants such as oil, grease and heavy metals.
